Strawberry Syrup is so easy to make and incredibly versatile. You can add the sweet flavor of summer to almost any dessert or cool beverage when you have a chilled bottle of syrup ready in the fridge.

For kids and grownup beverages

For the kids, Strawberry Syrup makes a great alternative to canned sodas. Simply add your own club soda and you have a soft drink with natural Vitamin C. Pour a few spoonfuls into a lemonade or ginger ale for extra flavor. You can also add the syrup to freshly brewed green tea for a refreshing, hydrating beverage.

For the grownups, one word: cocktails! How about all of the margaritas, daquiris, rum drinks or vodka tonics that could be improved with a splash of fresh strawberry syrup? So very delicious!

Why should you make your own syrup?

But why should you make your own Strawberry Syrup? The fresh flavor of real strawberries makes all the difference in the world. Sometimes I forget just how delicious fresh strawberries can be. Granted, there is a lot of artificial flavors out in the world that we are accustomed to…That is what makes fresh strawberries so much better – it’s authentic!

Once you have your bottle of authentic strawberry goodness at your fingertips, you better believe that pancakes and French toast should be your next thought. You can warm the syrup slightly when serving at breakfast. A dash of cinnamon pairs very well with your pancakes too!

Cake or ice cream are also good candidates for a good dousing. But you already knew that, right? I especially love lemon pound cake and vanilla ice cream – two quick dessert ideas that you can pick up at the supermarket if friends drop buy. Add a little rum to your syrup and then pour over your cake for 10-15 minutes before serving.

I’m telling you, having Strawberry Syrup on hand makes any dessert special!

Ingredients

Scale

2 lbs. strawberries (1kg)

½ cup water (120ml)

1.5 cups sugar (300g)

Instructions

Wash and remove leaves from strawberries. Cut into quarters and place in a large heavy 4 qt saucepan. Add the water and sugar and bring to a simmer over medium heat. As the strawberries begin to cook, mash them into a puree with a potato masher. Simmer for 3-4 minutes. Remove from the heat and cool completely.

Using a stainless steel or plastic mesh strainer, strain out the strawberry puree. Discard the puree. Pour the syrup into a glass container and serve immediately, or store in the refrigerator until ready for use.
