Life at the Ranch

When I started with Instagram, it was all about promoting my retail store. I didn’t know much about Instagram, but at the time I thought it was something that was a quicker version of Facebook. To hedge my promotional bets, I posted on both.

Ten months after closing my store, and after oh-so-many errands to liquidate, donate, ship and dispose of stuff, I have dedicated the last few months to writing and photography. Inasmuch as I adore Latin American cuisine, and spend loads of time studying all of the distinct cultural differences, the tone of my current feed has an unmistakably ranch vibe.

The history of our continent’s food is still a huge deal for me, and it is where my thoughts live. But my test kitchen and my physical self are located on a cattle ranch.

The aesthetic of ranch living permeates everything I do. I see it. I write it. And I just can’t help it. Ranch life and border culture is in front of me, and from what a few observers have noticed, its the more interesting part of my feed.

Going back and looking through my notes, I reserved the Instagram handle and URL for Kitchen Wrangler about 7 years ago. I have had this idea for quite awhile. Being that person who lives on a ranch, cooks, and knows an alarming amount of food history trivia has been my natural self my entire life. My goal with branding myself (no ranch pun intended, really) as The Kitchen Wrangler very quickly states to everyone seeing my posts who I am, without the necessity of having to wiki-investigate Melissa Guerra.

The Kitchen Wrangler is Melissa Guerra

Changing my persona to The Kitchen Wrangler will tell everyone my story in three words. Speed is everything in social media, and telling my story in a branding title just seems logical.

So I will still be Melissa Guerra. I will still post the same types of photos, still be working towards the same aesthetic, still post recipes with tortillas and salsa, but under a title that will hopefully bring more followers.

And with more followers, who knows? So many amazing possibilities on the horizon…Send me your thoughts!!
