Baked Brie with Spicy Peach Jam might sound like a holiday classic, and it is. But summertime is when you should hop into the kitchen and make that summer jam before the Autumn leaves start to fall. You can never be too prepared for the holidays!

Christmas in July

Honestly, with restaurant prices going up, I don’t mind splurging at the grocery store. Home food is the best food. I would bet there is more home entertaining in the next few years. Appetizers like Baked Brie with Spicy Peach Jam are so delicious and easy you might never go to a restaurant again!

If you don’t have time to make Spicy Peach Jam this summer, there are definitely excellent spicy jams in the gourmet food market. Fig jams, onion jams, even bacon jams would be good for this baked brie recipe. I am going to try a quince jam next time I am craving baked brie.

Of course, you can switch out the slivered almonds for walnuts, hazelnuts or pecans. Just make sure that the nuts are raw and unsalted for best results. Roasted nuts can overcook when baked in the oven and turn bitter in flavor.

Bake gently don’t burn

I recommend that you watch the temperature on your oven. Some baked brie recipes call for a higher temperature than 350°F (176°C. ) I tried this recipe at a higher temperature and the puff pastry browned too much. Keep the oven lower so that the pastry wrapped brie bakes more slowly. The cheese has time to get ooey-gooey without burning the outside of the pastry. I am speaking from experience!

Serve your Baked Brie with Spicy Peach Jam with a selection of crackers, French bread slices, vegetables, pickles, fruits and wine. Even though this is a party recipe, the hubs and I clobbered this by ourselves. No regrets!

Ingredients

Scale

1 sheet frozen puff pastry (10″x10″/25cmx25cm)

Flour for dusting

1 round triple cream brie cheese (9oz/255g)

2–3 tbsp. Spicy Peach Jam (30-45ml)

1 tbsp. slivered blanched almonds

Egg Wash:

1 egg

2 tsp. water (10ml)

Extra jam and almonds for garnish

Instructions

Heat your oven to 350°F (176°C.) Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Thaw puff pastry as per package directions. Prepare your pastry rolling surface by dusting with a small amount of flour. Roll out the pastry slightly.

Unwrap the brie cheese and trace the size into the middle of the rolled pastry. Set the cheese aside. Cut out bits from the corners of the pastry to make optional top designs.

Add the Spicy Peach Jam to the center of the pastry where the size is traced out and then place the slivered almonds on top of the jam.

To make the egg wash, crack the egg into a small bowl and add the water. Beat the egg until lemon colored. Brush the egg wash onto the entire surface of the puff pastry.

Place the brie cheese on top of the almonds and jam. Fold one half of the pastry over the brie, and then the other half. Fold all the edges in, using a little of the egg mixture to seal the edges.

Turn the pastry wrapped brie over so that the top is smooth. Place the wrapped brie on the parchment lined baking pan. Brush the entire exterior with the egg wash. Use the egg wash to attach any extra puff pastry decoration to the top.

Place the baking pan with the brie in the oven and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven. Drizzle with extra jam and garnish with slivered almonds.
